Some folks will tell you that krosno means "loom" in Polish. But I am convinced that Krosno is a Polonization of kreuznung meaning "crossing" in German. King Kazimierz the Great invited a lot of Saxon settlers to pioneer this part of Poland in the 14th Century. In the 19th and early 20th Centuries, Krosno is called Crossen in German texts. Krosno is a few miles south of Frysztak, which is a Polonization of Frei Stadt meaning "Free City" in German.
Further, Krosno is the ancestral hometown of most folks named Zajdel. Zajdel is a Polonization of seidler meaning "settler" in German.

In the 19th Century, Jewish residents attended the synagogue in Krosno. Greek Catholics were found only in Kroscienko Nizne and attended the church in Jablonica Polska.
