Madonna in Osowica
Our Family Madonna

My maternal family homestead was in a hamlet of Osowica near Troscianiec Maly village. One photo (inset) of the Matka Boska Niepokalana in a bit of a neglected state is from 2002. My brother paid someone from Lwow to take some photos of our mom's childhood home if it still existed for her peace of mind. The larger one is from April 2011 and made by my new Polish acquaintance when he went for a visit a week before Easter. The whole story surrounding the statue is a miracle.

This statue was built in 1925 by our grandfather to celebrate our mom's birth. Matka Boska Niepokalana was just on the outside of my grandparents' cherry orchard. Just a beautiful backdrop in the spring time. My grandfather planted 12 spruce trees around her perimeter, like her son's apostles to guard and keep His mother safe. She is riddled with Nazi bullet holes where they shot the villagers against her. The Russians tried to rip her out of the ground with horses and tanks, asking the villagers for assistance who refused. She has an inscription on the pedestal, not sure if you can see it.

In the past few weeks I have made contact with a resident of Poland who has travelled to our ancestral home now located in Ukraine to visit his family who continued to live there after ours was forcibly deported to Siberia in 1940. The last photo is from 2010. I received it today via Skype from that village. Our Mother Mary Immaculate decorated for Thankgsgiving.
