The annual kayak race on the Wisloka River near Debica celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005. The event draws competitors and enthusiasts from miles around. Many bring tents and set up camp in an area designated by the race committee. There is one glitch in the rules, though. Apparently "kayak" is poorly defined in the official rulebook, so the race committee solved the problem by offering a special regatta for home-built "kayaks". Although jeopardized by heavy rains and flooding in the Wisloka Valley in some years, the annual race is still conducted. Talk about tough competitors. |
