In 1827, the town of Skepe had 130 homes and 924 residents, with an additional 14 homes and 122 residents living at the manor farm adjacent to the town. By the latter half of the 19th Cenutry, the town had grown to 138 homes and 1578 residents. It contained the church and seminary, a synagogue, a school, two taverns, a tannery, and two plants producing vegetable oil.
