Old Church of St. John Gwalbert

The New Church
According to the eminent medieval historian Jan Dlugosz, the settlement of this area was encouraged by the Polish king in the 15th Century. The early residents were served by priests from Grebow Parish. Eventually an independent parish was created from portions of Grebow, Ranizow, and Rozwadow Parishes. In 1802, the parish church of Saint John Gwalbert replaced an earlier chapel. Today, the parish maintains a new church in Stany plus chapels in Bojanow and Przyszow.

In 1900, Stany and its neighboring villages were in the Nisko administrative district and Nisko township. Jewish residents of these villages worshipped at Nisko. There were no Greek Catholic residents recorded.
