Bieniasz Family 1790-1890

Franciszek (Francis) Bieniasz

Franciszek Bieniasz was probably the son of Jacob (James) Bieniasz (circa 1750- ????) and born about 1781. (Jacob is our first documented direct ancestor to have been born in sovereign Poland, before the Partitions of Poland around 1772-1795.) It is documented that he married Ewa Gawle at the Straszecin Parish church on 18 November 1804. They are recorded as being from the town of Glowaczowa in the parish. (Ewa was the daughter of Andrzej Gawle (circa 1735-1800), and Marianna Gawle (circa 1740-1812) whose maiden name is unknown. The Gawle family appears to emerge most frequently from neighboring Zasow Parish.) Their known children (with christening dates) are:

APOLONIA -1 December 1811
MARIANNA - 29 March 1814
ELIZABETH (tentative entry, c1818-20)
ANDRZEJ - probably 1819
JOZEFA - 1 February 1822
WOJCIECH - 3 April 1825
AGATHA - 23 January 1829

Andrzej (Andrew) Bieniasz

We are still learning more about Andrzej Bieniasz (1818-1889). We are pretty sure he was really born in 1819. We know that he married Katarzyna Lada (1820-1884) at the Straszecin Parish church. Her parents were Wojciech Lada and Agatha Kutrzuba. The Kutrzuba family is well documented in the town of Glowaczowa.

Their known children (with christening dates) are:

SALOMIA - 1841
FRANCISZEK - 30 July 1844
MARIANNA - 29 August 1847

Franciszek (Francis) Bieniasz

Franciszek Bieniasz (1844-1940) married Jozefa Serafin (1849-1927) at the parish church at Straszecin. She was the daughter of Pawel Serafin, son of Jacob Serafin and Marianna Krupa, and Anna Oleksy, daughter of Blazej Oleksy and Katarzyna Niemiec.

Their known children were:

KATARZYNA
STANISLAW (1876-1942)
JOZEF (1881-....)
WERONIKA (1882-....)
STEPHANIE
MARIA
ANIELA (1886-....)
ANNA

Our current information regarding dates for the above is admittedly scanty.

Here is an old chart of our Bieniasz lineage:

Research Notes from Straszecin Records
Straszecin Parish Website

Footnote: Franciszek Bieniasz, presumed to have been born around 1780-81, is likely have had sisters Katarzyna and Elizabeth Bieniasz. Katarzyna married Wojciech Wulkowicz, while Elizabeth married Andrzej Zator on 18 November 1804 at Straszecin Parish. This suggests the presense of a Bieniasz family in Glowaczowa in at least the second half of the 18th Century. The presense of Bieniasz folks in other towns (Grabiny, Straszecin and Gora Motyczna) in Straszecin Parish in the 1700s is well documented.

The fact that the Bieniasz clan was so widely and well-established by the year 1800 in several villages of the parish suggests that they probably inhabited that area for at least several prior generations or perhaps a previous 200 years, i.e. since 1600. If Straszecin parish records existed from the time of the building its second wooden church in 1511, it would not surprise me to find a Bieniasz in the earliest of them. Nor would it surprise me to learn that other ancestors helped build the first wooden church circa 1275.
